Sports

It is typical of a sports article to focus on one game or about how the team is a family. Thus, when I took on a sports article, I pushed the bounds to find unique angles within each sport.

Pilot Lacrosse Clinics

As our school was experimenting with Lacrosse Clinics to gauge who was interested in participating in an official team, I knew I wanted to capture some actions shots of this brand-new sport. I interviewed the seventh grader who founded the program as well as the faculty who helped bring the program to life as well as took action shots of the first clinic.

To Swim or Not to Swim

Every season, The Oracle writes a swim recap article. However, I knew I wanted my story to be different and began to ask several swimmers background information about the team. Once I learned junior varsity and varsity were arbitrary terms on the team, as most of the team practices together and competes together, I was curious about the dynamic of the team and began writing my story. I interviewed swimmers on both the JV and varsity teams as well as the coach to get the best view of what participating in swim was like.

Upcoming: Equestrian

Archer offers a variety of sports, ranging from swim to tennis. However, since the Equestrian shows are spread out throughout the year, The Oracle covers them once as an overview of the entire year's season. However, for my upcoming Equestrian article, I was curious about how the team bonds since they train separately but come together at each of the Interscholastic Equestrian League shows. By interviewing middle school and upper school members of the team, I strive to give other Archer students a newfound appreciation for the sport.
