Editorial: AI is a tool, not the future of journalism
Best of SNO Winner
For the first editorial for the 2023-2024 school year, with recent AI guidelines in our school's handbook and rising AI news in the media, we wanted to comment on AI through the lens we know best: scholastic journalism. I took the lead on this article and researched how AI is being used in journalism today, but also emphasize how an AI could never outmatch the creative, unique voice of human journalists.
Commentary: Music's Importance to Me
This was the most personal I've gotten in an article, and one of my favorite pieces of writing to date. In this commentary, I focus on the story of how I developed my hearing loss, but simultaneously, how I developed a deep-rooted love for music. From Selena to AJR, I weave imagery and creative lyrics to highlight how music has never left me out of the conversation.
Review: ‘Call Us What We Carry’
Inspired by Amanda Gorman's poem during Biden's commencement ceremony, I knew I wanted to discover all her other work and share it with the community. Thus, in my first review, I used a variety of sea related imagery to convey the calming but powerful journey Gorman pens within the pages of the book.
Review: 'The Maybe Man'
Perhaps this was more for myself than anything, but when I realized AJR was going to be releasing a new album, I wanted improve my review writing skills by disceeting not only the lyrics, but also the melody and the hidden meaning within each change in music production. In this article, I embedded their album from Spotify and included an infobox which discusses each song from the album and my nuanced thoughts about their message of self-discovery and being alright with constantly questioning yourself.
